Overview

This Secondary (grades 6-12) Certification programme from University of Michigan - Dearborn has traditionally certified teachers in two different levels, Elementary and Secondary. Starting in Fall 2021, the state began a transition from this level-based certification to a new structure that certifies teachers in grade bands. As a result, we have developed a new major for incoming student to pursue certification in one or more grade bands. We will also continue to offer our level-based certification degree programmes for some transfer students and our current students who will be grandfathered into the level-based certification structure.

The College of Education, Health, and Human Services is committed to expanding and scaling digital equity and transformation in learning. As a sign of support for this commitment we have signed the EPP Digital Equity and Transformation Pledge created by ISTE, AAQEP and CAEP and we will continue to work to insure that our faculty have the tools and knowledge necessary to prepare future teachers to effectively integrate technology in their teaching.

Our Grade Band Certification programme is best suited for:

Incoming Freshman students starting Fall 2023 and after.
Incoming Transfer students starting Fall 2023 and after depending on transferable credit.
Current students interested in transitioning to the new programme (please consult with a CEHHS Advisor)
