Overview

Pursuing a B.A. in Spanish from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley not only insures bilingual and bicultural competencies, but also fosters critical and creative thinking skills through the study of literature, linguistics, translation, creative writing, Culture, and cultures.

Our program promotes these skills by introducing students to philosophical issues examined in literature and art; to writing and analytical skills; and to the rich cultural complexities of languages, peoples, and nations across the globe.

Learning Outcomes:

Demonstrate proficient Spanish listening comprehension and speaking skills in diverse situations.

Analyze and respond to various kinds of texts written in Spanish.

Apply Spanish orthographic code and grammatical concepts in written assignments.

Compose critical essays in Spanish that demonstrate logical analysis, reason, and well---supported arguments.

Understand the historical and geographical development, expansion, and influence of Spanish in the world.

Identify major trends, figures, and influences on the development of cultural and artistic production in the Hispanic world.

You must submit a current copy of your valid passport to ensure that the spelling of your name is consistent on all non-immigrant and university documents.

Submit Financial Documentation.

If you have been offered a scholarship you will need to provide a copy of the award letter that includes a dollar amount of the scholarship.

Mexican nationals may apply for the Mexican Tuition Waiver Form and provide all financial documentation that it requires. This benefit allows for eligible students to pay in-state tuition.

For students who plan to attend on a visa status other than F-1 student status (TN, TD, H1-B, H-4, E1, E2, or other which allows you to study in the U.S.), proof of that valid status is required. Include copies of all immigration documents.

If you have applied for U.S. Residency but have not yet received it, you must submit copies of your latest immigration documents.
