At Literature at Saginaw Valley State University the study of language and literature provides students with an opportunity to develop a better understanding of themselves and the world around them at Saginaw Valley State University.

Through courses that range from classic literature to contemporary fiction and literary theory, students can acquire the skills necessary for effective use of language and for analyzing issues important to individuals and society.

These Literature courses offer a foundation for effective interpersonal communication as well as an understanding of culture and history that is needed today; the study of literature empowers students to participate as critical thinkers in the public discourse of our time.

Student Opportunities

Many literature majors contribute to SVSU’s weekly newspaper, The Valley Vanguard, and the campus' semi-annual literary magazine, Cardinal Sins.

Recent capstone courses for seniors have examined such diverse topics as performance studies and the theory and practice of textual editing.

Many literature majors also acquire valuable experience by working as tutors in the campus Writing Center.

Visit the Self Service Center to upload the following documents:

Copy of passport name/photo page (and any dependent(s))

Evidence of Financial Support (original bank statement signed and stamped by the bank) for one academic year, $34,175 USD

Unofficial transcripts, translated into English from all institutions attended outside the U.S.

official international transcripts must be provided after arrival

official U.S. transcripts must be provided prior to admission

Request to have official scores on the English language test sent directly to SVSU (if scores are not submitted or are below requirements, conditional admission may be offered)

Request to have official SAT or ACT scores sent directly to SVSU for additional scholarship consideration. (NOT REQUIRED)
