Overview

The curriculum will cover a wide variety of topics. Conduct fitness assessments with peers, analyze health behaviors, and monitor client progress. If you haven’t already, crack open a book and start brushing up on your medical terms. Kinesiology, Biomechanics, and Clinical Exercise Physiology will give you a vocabulary you never thought you’d have.

Want to take it to the next level? With Exercise Science, you can continue on to graduate school. Athletic training, Chiropractic Medicine, Medicine, Physician’s Assistant, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy are some of the options.

With exceptional training and tools to advance your knowledge, we have even more to offer. Our specific pre-professional options, like our Physical Therapy track, gives you an exclusive membership to the American College of Sports Medicine. Plus, you’ll attend the regional ACSM conference, and create your own research initiative.

During this program, we encourage you to seek an internship relevant to your field and your individual interest areas. These internships can be paid or unpaid.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the Exercise Science program from Dakota State University, students will:

Demonstrate understanding of the structure and function of the human body

Demonstrate understanding and participate in research in exercise science

Demonstrate understanding of the relationship between physical activity, health, and nutrition

In order to demonstrate your academic ability to meet the academic challenges at DSU, you’ll need to meet at least one of the following requirements:

Maintain an above-average academic record at least equivalent to a "B-" (2.60 on a 4.00 GPA scale)
Be in the top 60% of your class
Get an ACT composite score of 18 or above, or get an SAT score of 950 or above with subscores of at least 480 on the Math and 450 on the Critical Reading
