Overview

Students in the Wentworth Institute of Technology program will customize their education, both their specialized area of engineering study and their personal directed studies, with a full-time faculty mentor. This program allows students to tailor an engineering curriculum with elective courses to expand their education beyond a single area of study. Students may plan to Study Abroad for one semester, ideally during the Junior year.

The Engineering Curriculum Includes

a set of core engineering courses.
a set of mathematics and science courses that support the engineering discipline.
a set of general education courses that provide the foundation to understand the role and responsibility of an engineer in society and in a global environment.
a set of elective courses that provide a pathway for a student’s future goals, and
a set of interdisciplinary design courses that allow students to collaborate with one another on a variety of projects.

Student Outcomes

Students should demonstrate these abilities upon graduation:

An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
