Philosophy, B.A.

  • Application Deadline
  • 48 months
    Duration
Worcester, MA, United States
We cannot avoid having opinions about good and bad, about what a human being is, about our place in the natural world, and about whether there is a God. To live according to beliefs that may not be true is to live foolishly, according to Socrates. Philosophy begins when people examine whether the opinions they hold and by which they live are true. Overview

At Assumption College, we introduce students to philosophical thinking in dialogue with the primary works of the great philosophical authors.  In the best cases, philosophy becomes a habit of thinking and, ultimately, a way of life.

Because Philosophy inquires into everything, an education in philosophy is relevant to every way of life and every profession.  Some philosophy majors go on to graduate studies in philosophy, but most go on to some other career.

Philosophy cultivates analytical sharpness of mind, perceptiveness in reading, clarity and precision in writing, and skill in argument.  Consequently, philosophy majors are well-prepared to pursue any number of careers, including teaching, medicine, law, business, journalism, editing, and publishing.
