Overview

The Department of Art's purpose at University of Evansville is to encourage students in the development of artistic expression, promote personal ideation, cultivate them to be creative problem solvers while expanding critical thinking and aesthetic knowledge in preparation for art or design-related careers.

The Department also works with the School of Education to serve the needs of students pursuing Art Education. Upon degree completion, Art majors are prepared for graduate school or various career options. Students are provided a diverse experience and exposure in art through a variety of visiting artist lectures and exhibitions in the Krannert and Melvin Peterson Galleries, field trips to area design-related firms, and professional artists’ studios, along with excursions to museums outside the area.

Hands-on gallery experience and the chance to have work displayed in the Melvin Peterson Gallery, UE’s premier exhibit space
Diverse course selections ranging from computer graphics and painting to ceramics and metalwork
On-campus practicums with student publications and various offices and departments
Internships with design firms, publishers, marketing departments, museums, photography studios, galleries, and more
Research projects with faculty members
