Overview

The Music Therapy program offered by Florida Gulf Coast University helps students become eligible to sit for the national examination in music therapy administered by the CBMT and prepares them for graduate education in music therapy. Further, as accomplished musicians and having engaged with the health sciences, students completing this degree may also pursue graduate study in related disciplines.

Our approach incorporates recent advances in technology that complement therapeutic processes. Emphasis is placed on the application of music in prevention and wellness.

Students that apply to the Bower School of Music are initially accepted into the University as a pre-music major student. A supplemental application and subsequent audition for acceptance into the music major are also required. The selection process is very competitive and space is limited in each admission class. Students admitted to the Bower School of Music are eligible to apply for a Music Scholarship.

Graduates with Bachelor degree in Music Therapy from Florida Gulf Coast University will be able to:

Demonstrate competence in the application of music foundations during the delivery of supervised music therapy services for varied population groups.

Demonstrate competence in the application of clinical foundations during the delivery of supervised music therapy services for varied population groups.

Demonstrate competence in the application of professional standards of practice during the delivery of supervised music therapy services for varied population groups.

Submit an FGCU Undergraduate Admission Application and satisfy all applicable university admission requirements.
Limited Access: Submit a Bower School of Music and the Arts Supplemental Application.
A Performance Audition, Theory Placement Exam and Interview must be completed for acceptance consideration into the Music Therapy Limited Access Program.
