Overview

The Athletic Training program from Florida Gulf Coast University offers students information about how to help athletes prevent injury, recover and return to pre-injury status.

During the program, students complete a series of clinical experiences. These experiences may be associated with FGCU intercollegiate athletic programs, professional athletic programs, local sports medicine clinics, and local high school athletic programs.

Graduates of the FGCU B.S.A.T. program are eligible to take the Board of Certification (BOC) examination to become a certified athletic trainer.

Graduates with B.S. in Athletic Training from Florida Gulf Coast University will be able to:

Demonstrate proper injury/illness prevention, clinical evaluation and diagnosis rquired of an athletic trainer.
Demonstrate proper immediate, emergency care, treatment and rehabilitation required of an athletic trainer.
Identify important concepts related to administration used in professional athletic training practice.
Model professional behaviors that are consistent with professional practice in athletic training.
Demonstrate effective critical thinking and problem solving skills compatible with being an effective athletic trainer.
Appropriately use and modify written and oral communication used in athletic training practice.
