Students majoring in English Literature choose from an array of courses organized into three central domains:
- Literary Tradition & Aesthetics (e.g. Shakespeare and the Folktale, Modernism)
- Identity & Difference (e.g. Human and Divine in World Literature, Life Writing)
- Place & Power (e.g. Postcolonial Literature, Narratives of Empire)

With a degree in English Literature, you can do almost anything! You may want to start your first podcast or open a bookstore, or you may want to explore a diverse range of professional areas, including editing, production, administration, marketing, content creation, social media management, communications, or public relations.
While some majors enter the workforce just after graduation, others continue their academic work by pursuing graduate degrees in creative writing, literature, the law, or library and information sciences. An application for admission, via the Common Application, which includes:
- Teacher Evaluation Form (teacher invitation sent via the Common Application)
- Secondary School Report and International School Supplement from counselor or school official (invitation sent via the Common Application)
- Official High School Transcript in English
- Optional: SAT or ACT scores. Test scores are optional, and you may make the choice about whether or not you would like them to be considered. If you choose to do so, you can self-report your test scores by attaching your score report to the Common Application or uploading to your admission portal.
- Application fee of US $30- This fee is required of all international applicants and cannot be waived.
