Art Highlights

As a major in the Art program of Weber State University, you have the option to focus your studies on a particular art discipline with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, or choose among a wide range of disciplines while completing your studio coursework with a bachelor’s degree in general art.

Weber State’s art programs offers a great deal of faculty engagement and mentorship, along with extensive studio practice and courses in art history and theory.

Weber State features the work of BFA majors annually in the BFA Thesis Exhibit.

What You’ll Learn at Weber

Prior to applying to the Bachelor of Fine Arts program, you’ll complete foundation courses designed to foster a knowledgeable and creative community of artists and designers. Once in this major, you’ll focus the majority of your studio work in one area of emphasis.

The general art degree does not include prerequisite courses and allows you to choose 12 credits of studio electives, so you can diversify your studio experience. In addition, you will be required to choose a minor to enhance and broaden your knowledge.

While the general art degree requires foreign language or language arts general education courses, the Bachelor of Fine Arts allows you to instead complete more in-depth study of art.

What You Can Do After Weber

Upon graduation, you’ll have skills and a portfolio of work that will allow you to be competitive while seeking employment, working as an independent artist or designer, securing exhibition opportunities or residencies and applying to graduate school.

In addition, the critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills you’ll develop as an art major can be applied to a large array of professional fields.

You’ll also be prepared to pursue your Master of Fine Arts degree.
