Overview

The Music Performance program at Winona State University focuses on strengthening student’s technical and artistic skills in their main performing medium within a comprehensive, in-depth education in the field of music.

Students in vocal or instrumental performance are required to take 4 years of studio sessions and present both a junior (half) and senior (full) recital.

Students graduating with a music performance degree may choose to pursue careers as performing musicians and/or continue their education with graduate studies in their major performance medium.

The Music Department is a vital part of WSU’s campus life and our community. Not only does our program give students the opportunity to enrich their lives through music, but it also exposes other students, staff, and community members to the performing arts.

We believe that all learners should have the chance to participate in music, whether they are:

preparing for a career in the field
enhancing another degree with music education
playing or singing in a performance for enjoyment
simply attending concerts and recitals

In our department, you will learn from experienced educators and professional musicians. They are active in the music world through performing, presenting workshops, composing, researching, and writing to not only enrich themselves, but also their students.

Our faculty will give each student our best effort to help them get what they want from our program, whether it’s the skills for a career or the simple enjoyment of music.

If you’re a student with a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, you’ll be guaranteed admission to Winona State University.

There’s a $20 application fee, which can be paid online.

First-year students will need to submit official high school transcripts or GED documentation to be admitted.

Unofficial transcripts can be used for admission decisions. However, original or certified true copies with English translations must be presented before the start of your first semester.
