Overview
The Music course from Augustana University offers performance experiences that include international and regional touring, performances in the renowned Mary W. Sommervold Hall at the Washington Pavilion and the opportunity to perform and learn from nationally-known visiting artists.
Large and chamber ensembles are available in vocal and instrumental studies. Choral, band, symphonic, operatic, solo, chamber and jazz are some of the varied opportunities for students at Augustana. Ensembles are open to the whole campus community, and there are more than a dozen performing groups engaging music of all eras and styles. Keyboard majors rehearse and perform on the highest quality concert pianos and organs. Class sizes in theory, history, and conducting are purposefully small to enhance learning and class participation.
Mission:
If you are interested in auditioning for our music ensembles, we welcome you! First of all, anyone can audition. You do NOT need to be a music major to be in any of our ensembles. You do, however, need to come ready to share your musicianship and perform to the best of your ability during your audition. Leave your nerves at home or in your residence hall room — we are eager to meet (and hear) you!
Distinguished teachers, talented students, supportive public: these are the people who make the School of Music at Augustana University a nationally recognized center for musical learning, serving and sharing. A talented faculty of performers, conductors, composers and authors, drawn from the nation's finest conservatories and universities, work to develop the whole person in the context of a caring academic community of outstanding students and enthusiastic audiences.
