Global Studies at Providence College is about unleashing the potential of students to make a positive difference—on campus and beyond.

Global Studies is an award-winning department that offers a major and minor, with innovative courses taught by dedicated full-time faculty, trained in areas across the humanities and social sciences. The study of globalization takes on new meaning given the interconnectedness of the world, along with the growing number of social, political, economic, and cultural challenges.

As a result, we need for new ways of thinking, acting, and educating. Global Studies aims to prepare critically engaged and responsible change makers by offering global perspectives on the most pressing issues facing our world. Students are given theoretical and applied frameworks to understand the pillars of a globalized planet, and the tools for reciprocal, collaborative action in an interdependent world.

The bachelor of arts in global studies degree program draws on concepts from disciplines across the humanities, political science, and economics. Students learn how societies around the world are converging while challenging geographic and political frontiers and developing an appreciation for the common good.

The program emphasizes collaborative learning, participatory research, community engagement, activism, and cross-cultural competency in order to effectively understand globalization and influence its effects upon communities, environmental sustainability, and the dignity of all living things.
