Overview

Anthropology is the study of the human condition, past and present. The Anthropology BA program from Skidmore College concentrates on three sub-areas within anthropology: cultural anthropology, archaeology, and biological anthropology.

Cultural anthropology studies the ways of life of different groups and communities in the present; archeology studies the human past through its physical remains; and biological anthropology focuses on the adaptations, variability and evolution of humans and their living and fossil relatives. By exploring the complexities of culture, social action and biology, our students investigate and appreciate human diversity.

In the support of a liberal arts education, we encourage students to develop interdisciplinary interests by bridging anthropology with the natural and social sciences, humanities, and arts, and exploring those interests through coursework, individual research projects, internships, and study abroad. Through studying the breadth and scope of the human experience, students become responsible, informed global citizens.

General requirements

Skidmore accepts the Common Application, Coalition Application, or QuestBridge Application.
All applications must be submitted electronically and must be accompanied by a non-refundable $65 application fee or a request for a fee waiver.
The School Report form and official high school transcript should be submitted within a week of the application deadline.
Midyear grades should be sent as soon as they are available, but no later than mid-February.
Skidmore recommends four years of English, three or more years of mathematics, three or more years of social science, three or more years of science, and three or more years of a world language.
Skidmore College is test-optional and does not require the SAT or ACT for admission.
Two academic teacher evaluation forms should be submitted as early as possible, but no later than a week after the application deadline.
