Overview

This curriculum teaches students the current and trending healthcare systems. It also teaches tools and methods to improve safety and quality in healthcare systems, how to collect and analyze data, and how to focus on outcomes in a healthcare setting. 

The curriculum introduces the financial aspect of the healthcare system: reimbursement based on outcomes and the "value vs volume" based care that is evolving in today's healthcare society. It also covers the importance of accreditation for healthcare systems, Health Informatics, and the role it plays in modern healthcare.

The purposes of the Health Systems Management (HSM) program from Southeastern Louisiana University are to prepare graduates who are able to understand current and future healthcare industry trends and issues; to develop, communicate and manage resources, and develop solutions to challenges for healthcare systems; and to improve overall quality and outcomes of healthcare systems and services.

General Requirements

To be eligible for full admission to Southeastern, international beginning freshmen students must meet ALL of the following criteria:Must have completed a recognized secondary school program with a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.35.Must have taken the TOEFL or IELTS *:

  • Minimum IELTS score required - 6.0 overall band
  • Minimum TOEFL scores required - 500 paper-based, 173 computer-based, and 61 internet based
  • Minimum TOEFL scores required - 500 paper-based, 173 computer-based, and 61 internet based 
Must have taken the ACT or SAT:
  • Minimum Verbal SAT of 450 or minimum 460 in Math (old format)
  • Minimum Writing and Language of 25 or 500 in Math (new format
