Overview
In our nationally accredited Department of Art and Art History at Bridgewater State University, your art history undergraduate program will give you a broad-based education in global art history and Euro-American traditions. You will also make art in studio classes as you work toward your art history degree, giving you an artist’s perspective to your historical art training.
Through your art history undergraduate studies and analysis, you’ll grow the research, communication and critical-thinking skills employers seek.
The Art History - Global Perspectives program at Bridgewater State University offers broad-based training in Global Art History and Euro-American traditions, as well as experience of studio practice, which we believe is essential to art historical training more broadly. The major is designed to prepare students for entry into graduate school or for entry-level positions in galleries and museums.
The Art History program is committed to the study of art outside of the classroom through visits to major museums and galleries and architectural sites in Boston and New York City. There is also potential for art history sponsored/curated exhibitions to be held within the gallery context of the department and the university. An established history of exhibitions enhances classroom instruction. In addition, visiting artists and related art programs are made possible each year by a generous gift from the Class of 1936.
