The Biology Major offers four different track specializations from which students can choose:

  • Pre-Medical and Other Health CareersThis program is designed to prepare students for their further education in medicine (MD and DO), dentistry, and veterinary medicine.   • Allied HealthThis program is designed to prepare students for further education in a variety of health-related fields including, but not limited to, the following: physical therapy, physician assistant, pharmacy, laboratory technology, occupational therapy, optometry, and chiropractic.
  • Molecular/Micro/Cell Biology This program is designed to provide majors with a background in molecular biology, cell biology andmicrobiology. Students typically continue on to work in industry, as well as complete MS and PhDgraduate degrees.
  • Organismal Biology/Ecology 
  • This program is designed to provide majors with a broad education in the biology of organisms and their ecology. Graduates typically continue in private organizations, non-government-organizations, as well as government jobs such as the National Park Service, Environmental Protection Agency, PA Fish & Wildlife, to name a few. Some students continue on to complete graduate degrees (MS or PhD).

Career Opportunities

Our graduates are successful: 85 percent are employed in biology-related jobs or advanced training. Students who graduate with a degree in biology can choose to further their education, or find employment opportunities in health care, health sciences, education, research and development for private companies and the government, and the biomedical sciences.

    The TOEFL®PBT is administered in a paper format and measures your ability to use and understand English in a classroom setting at the college or university level. It accurately measures how well you can listen, read and write in English while performing academic tasks.

    PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a language test that enables students to demonstrate their writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills when applying to study in English. Delivered and marked by computer, it reports on a scale between 10 and 90.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3.2

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3.2 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • Complete and submit the admissions application. If you need to update or edit information on the application, please contact the Office of Admissions.
  • Pay the non-refundable $35 application fee. KU subscribes to the College Board and NACAC fee waiver programs.
  • Send an official high school transcript to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. GED results must be sent directly from the Department of Education.
  • Submit SAT or ACT test scores.
