Overview
Throughout this International Relations with Year Abroad (Hons) BA programme from Queen Mary University of London you’ll be taught by world-class academics with distinctive expertise in their fields of research, including British, French, European, American, Latin American, African and Middle Eastern politics. We’ve designed this course to cover key areas such as the state system, security and globalisation. You'll study through the lens of historical and contemporary examples, from the 1870s Scramble for Africa to the global financial crisis, while learning how to apply theory to the real world.
The International Relations with Year Abroad (Hons) programme offered at Queen Mary University of London will introduce you to political concepts, theories, ideologies and analysis in your first year. As you progress in your studies you'll choose from a wide range of module options, covering national and global issues.
You can complete your International Relations degree in three or four years. If you choose to do a year abroad this will take place in Year 3 and Year 3 modules will instead be studied in Year 4.

General requirements
- A-Level - Grades AAB at A-Level. Excludes General Studies and Critical Thinking.
- IB - International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum of 34 points overall, including 6,6,5 from three Higher Level subjects.
- GCSE - Minimum five GCSE passes including English and Maths at grade C or 4.
- We consider applications from students with the Access to Higher Education Diploma. The minimum academic requirement is to achieve 60 credits overall, with 45 credits at Level 3, of which 15 credits must be at Distinction and 15 credits at Merit or higher. Applications are considered on a case by case basis. Due to the high volume of applications, we do not make offers of study purely on the basis of meeting grade requirements.
