The Social Work program at Tarleton State University is the only undergraduate degree that enables you to become a licensed Social Worker. This program prepares you for licensure examination by the State of Texas as social workers, with immediate entry upon graduation into direct human service professional positions.

The Social Work program at Tarleton State University meets rigorous academic standards that ensure the professional competency of graduates.

Program Objectives

The goals of the Tarleton Social Work Program are to teach students to:

  • Engage in evidence-based, generalist social work practice with individuals, families, groups, communities and organizations within a multicultural society
  • Practice according to the values, ethical principles, and standards that guide the social work profession
  • Actively influence social policies through individual and organizational advocacy with an emphasis on alleviating poverty, oppression, and social and economic inequities affecting disadvantaged populations
  • Identify, assess, and utilize the bio-psycho-social, spiritual, and cultural factors to effectively work with an emphasis on Hispanic, military, and rural populations in North and Central Texas
  • Practice from a culturally-sensitive perspective that recognizes and appreciates one's own culture, along with populations representing diverse cultures
