In the Departments of Music, you will find plenty of opportunities to develop your musical style. Your studies will embrace everything from conducting and music history to dance and opera performance.

What you'll study

In the Vocal Performance major from Catholic University of America you will be trained as both a performer and a scholar. You will develop valuable critical thinking and writing skills which will help you as you pursue your career. Whether you plan to perform professionally or simply want to explore your passion for music more deeply, the Departments of Music will shape you not just as a musician, but as a whole person.

Why Study Music in D.C.?

Washington, D.C., offers a broad array of music and arts venues. This not only gives our students the chance to regularly attend world-class performances, it gives them the chance to perform in these venues as well.

The students have performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts more than 50 times. It’s where we held our 50th anniversary gala concert.

The students also perform regularly at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, adjacent to our campus and a brief walk from the music departments. The university’s annual Christmas Concert for Charity is held in the Basilica’s Great Upper Church every year.
