Professional Education Core

In addition to meeting General Education requirements, teaching field requirements, and program-specific professional knowledge/methodology requirements, programs preparing candidates for Idaho teaching certificates must ensure that program completers have coursework and preparation in educational foundations and general methodology.

The Elementary Education program at Idaho State University has approved a set of professional core courses to fulfill these requirements and ensure that teacher candidates demonstrate competency with respect to the Idaho Core Teacher Standards through course-embedded performance assessments. In general, the professional core courses are taught by faculty in the Department of Teaching and Educational Studies and are taken by candidates across the teacher preparation programs. See the list of Professional Education Core courses required by your program because they vary slightly by degree program.
