Overview

The Art Education BSc degree offered by The University of Vermont provides the tools for our students to become thoughtful and critical thinkers engaged with the broader field of art and education. They learn to provide diverse populations with quality art education and understand how to advocate for the arts outside of the classroom.

Key facts

Students in the Art Education Program are enrolled in the College of Education and Social Services, and fulfill requirements in general education, professional art education, professional education, studio art, art history, and electives in related subjects. Graduates satisfy the College of Education and Social Services requirements for teacher licensure in art for grades Pre-K through 12.

With the belief that experience in the classroom is the backbone of a strong program, most art education courses have a fieldwork component known as a practicum. The culminating Art Education experience is a 12-credit full-time student teaching practicum in a local public school, and an accompanying 3-credit seminar to help compile the licensure portfolio.
