Overview
Upon completion of the four year baccalaureate program in nursing, graduates are eligible to take the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Licensure exam (NCLEX) to become a Registered Nurse.
Key Features
The Nursing degree at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga gives students the opportunity to experience a variety of care settings.
Classes and clinical groups are small, which allows for individualized attention.
With a BSN, students are also prepared for graduate study in nursing. The emphasis of the program is on use of knowledge and skills to plan and implement nursing care.
Critical thinking and decision-making skills are emphasized. The BSN program has outstanding faculty that provide leadership in the area’s health care delivery system and professional organizations.
Program Outcomes
Upon completion of the BSN program the graduate will be able to:
- PO 1: The graduate has demonstrated accountability for one’s self and nursing practice, including continuous professional engagement. (Essentials 9, 10)
- PO 2: The graduate has applied leadership concepts, skills, and decision making in the provision of high quality nursing care, healthcare team coordination, and the oversight and accountability for care delivery in a variety of settings. (Essentials 3, 10)
- PO 3: The graduate has demonstrated effective communication and collaboration with patients, families, communities and healthcare team. (Essentials 6)
- PO 4: The graduate has integrated the knowledge, skills and attitude to care for individuals, families, groups, communities and populations across the life span in a variety of settings. (Essentials 1, 2)
- PO 5: The graduate has integrated skills of inquiry and analysis to execute scholarly activities to address practice issues and gaps in knowledge to improve and promote patient and population outcomes, to include addressing needs of the profession. (Essentials 4)
- PO 6: The graduate has critically appraised the impact of health promotion along with disease and injury prevention across the lifespan to address individual and population health. (Essentials 7)
- PO 7: The graduate has competently utilized and integrated technologies into all areas of nursing care. (Essentials 8)
- PO 8: The graduate has reflected or participated in healthcare policy that will affect and change the practice environment. (Essentials 5, 7)

- Financial Documents: Documentation of financial resources sufficient for nine months of study must be received prior to issuance of an I-20.
