Overview
Mathematics from Gonzaga University classes challenge you to use your growing knowledge to think critically about the world and to advance Gonzaga's mission of serving the greater good.
There are many opportunities to pursue your passion for mathematics and enrich your understanding of its role in the world through participation in undergraduate research, conferences, tutoring, community teaching, and clubs.
What You'll Study
Applied Mathematics- Do you like using math to solve problems? From medical imaging to weather modeling to data science (and much more), applied mathematics is on the forefront of helping solve the increasingly complex problems facing our society. Gonzaga’s Applied Mathematics Program was designed to prepare students for interdisciplinary technical jobs in high demand from employers as well as graduate school in a variety of areas.
- Do you just like math for its own sake? Do you want a proof for everything? Math has been developing around the world for thousands of years and today there are many branches. Climb high into abstract algebra, analysis, topology, or other branches by studying pure math. The B.S. degree is excellent preparation for graduate school in math while the B.A. is often chosen by secondary math teachers. Both build critical thinking and communication skills in high demand from employers.
- Do you want to use data to understand the world? Statistics is the mathematical analysis of incomplete (sample) data. Add a statistics concentration to your math or applied math major to learn these important techniques. For the ultimate data science degree, consider a math or applied math major with a statistics concentration and a minor in data science.
