With its rich history in teacher education, Montclair State prepares aspiring teachers to make real differences in their classrooms and in the lives of their students

Notably, Montclair State University is the first university in the nation to create a formal structure known as the Center of Pedagogy, bringing together all of those involved in the education of educators. Under the umbrella of the Center of Pedagogy are a number of important programs and offices.

The Dual Degree Dual Certification program is a 5-year program that leads to teacher certification in English (grades P-12), Teacher Certification in Teacher of Students with Disabilities, a baccalaureate degree and a master’s degree. Interested students must apply to and be admitted to the Teacher Education Program as an undergraduate. Students must successfully complete the undergraduate portion of the program in order to be admitted to the Graduate School and complete the one-year master’s portion of the program.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

A minimum of 120 credits of coursework is required for the baccalaureate degree with a minimum 3.0 overall GPA; however more than 120 credits may be required depending upon the major field of study.  Major GPA requirements differ depending on field of study.
