Journalists who report on culture and society need to understand social movements, cultural practices that influence human behavior, and the structures that make up our society, They also need the research skills to collect, analyze, and communicate relevant information.

Career Outcomes

In the B.S./M.A. program in Journalism and Sociology at St. John's University, you learn to collect, analyze, and report information about the cultural movements and structures that make up today’s global and diverse society.

Your combined studies will allow you to conduct insightful interviews and understand the language and terminology used to describe social and cultural phenomena.

While still working toward your undergraduate Journalism degree, you enroll in four approved graduate courses in Sociology.

These courses will still apply to your bachelor’s degree if for any reason you do not wish to continue at the master’s level after four years.

Statement of activity if you have a gap in your education of more than three months between your graduation date and date of application submission

An essay and recommendation letters are strongly encouraged, but not required, for all programs except for Pharmacy, which requires both.

Official academic records and or official certificates/results from the Ministry of Education or secondary school in original language with official English translation

Official examination results (if taken) from the examining board (i.e., International Baccalaureate, General Certificate of Education, Caribbean Examinations Council, West African Examinations Council)

Students who are home-schooled outside of the U.S. need to submit a NACES member evaluation.
