Chemistry is the study of the composition, synthesis, physical properties, and transformations of materials, including biological substances, technological materials, and natural products. All courses of the Bachelor in Chemistry from Mount Holyoke College are designed to contribute in various ways to the College’s Learning Goals and the Chemistry Department's Learning Goals.

Overview

Through hands-on experience with modern instrumentation throughout the Bachelor in Chemistry from Mount Holyoke College curriculum, a broad array of advanced coursework, and engagement in active discussion and collaboration with the chemistry faculty.

 The goals of chemistry are:

  • to give students a firm foundation in the fundamental principles of chemistry, its sub-disciplines, and their interrelationships;
  • to develop a proficiency in experimental technique, design, and interpretation;
  • to expose students to contemporary research questions and applications.
