A Biochemistry - General major at Eastern Michigan University learns how to think about the complexity of life in chemical terms and acquires practical chemistry and biochemistry lab and problem-solving skills. Graduates of this program will have the biochemical foundation they need for a career in medicine, or in the chemical, biomedical or biotechnology industries.
In addition to taking both lecture and hands-on laboratory courses, many general Biochemistry majors choose to participate in individual mentored research with a faculty member. This training in research deepens their scientific knowledge and problem-solving skills and often includes opportunities to present research findings both to other EMU students as well as at regional or national conferences. This major provides a strong foundation for students interested in Pre-Medicine or Pre-Dentistry, or a diversity of other fields. It also is a good path to a job in industry.
