Overview

In high schools, colleges and universities, professional sports programs, corporate and industrial sites, and sports medicine clinics, athletic trainers are managing patients' injuries and medical conditions. The athletic trainer specializes in injury prevention and evaluation, as well as the management of rehabilitation programs in physically active people.

The Athletic Training program at Towson University provides a combination of formal classroom instruction and clinical experience to prepare students to apply their health care skills in cooperation with medical and athletic personnel, coaches, parents, and others involved in physical activity.

Extensive Clinical Experience

Students complete an intensive clinical experience over a seven-term period, beginning in the second semester of freshman year. All experiences are directly supervised in clinical sites, which include the university's athletic department, local high schools and universities, and sports medicine clinics.

In this process, faculty assume the responsibility for designing, developing, implementing, and assessing academic programs.
