Overview
The Bioengineering programme at Oakland University offers a multidisciplinary approach to solving complex medical and biological challenges. By combining rigorous academic study with practical application, students prepare for high-impact careers at the intersection of technology and human health.
This degree is delivered through a unique collaboration between the School of Engineering and Computer Science and the Department of Biological Sciences. This partnership ensures that students receive a balanced education that covers both the theoretical foundations of biology and the technical depth of modern engineering practices.
Why Bioengineering at Oakland University?
Oakland University is situated within a major industrial hub in Southeast Michigan, providing students with unparalleled access to national leaders in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and electronics. These strong industry partnerships facilitate unique networking opportunities and professional collaborations that are rarely found in other undergraduate programmes.
Students benefit from exceptional facilities, including the Center for Biomedical Research and the Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine. These on-campus centres allow undergraduates to participate in high-level research alongside expert faculty, gaining hands-on experience with the same technologies used by professional engineers in the field.
The curriculum is highly customisable, offering five distinct professional tracks to help students specialise in their areas of interest. These pathways include bioinformatics, biomedical engineering, computational biology, electronic devices and biosensors, and molecular engineering biology, ensuring graduates possess niche expertise for the job market.
