Overview
The Chinese Studies programme at Oakland University offers students a multidisciplinary approach to understanding one of the world's most influential nations. By combining advanced language instruction with diverse elective options, the curriculum ensures graduates possess both linguistic fluency and a nuanced perspective on East Asian affairs.
Students engage with a broad academic framework that includes history, art, and political science. The degree structure requires 24 credits specifically in regional studies alongside 12 credits in a complementary area, such as Japanese or South Asian studies. This ensures a well-rounded education that places China within a global and regional context.
The curriculum is designed to challenge students through high-level language coursework at the 3000 and 4000 levels.
