Overview
The Management - Human Resources courses offered at Western Kentucky University are normally taught by highly qualified faculty who write, teach, and offer service in the field of human resource management. Most classes are small enough to permit a high level of student-faculty interaction.
This curriculum in this program has been approved by SHRM – the Society of Human Resource Management making it one of a select number of programs in the country. Courses required in the human resource management curriculum include: Organization and Management, Human Resource Management, Organizational Behavior, Effective Staffing Practices, Training and Development, Compensation Administration, and Strategic Human Resource Management.
Students are also required to choose one course from the following: Employment Law, Labor Relations, Human Resource Information Systems, Conflict Management, or other approved elective.
Students are encouraged to participate in the student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management. SHRM provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn about actual organizational problems and successes through speakers and field trips.
Career opportunities
The student majoring in Human Resources Management can expect to start his or her career as an HRM specialist in an area such as recruitment and selection, training and development, compensation and benefits administration, or labor relations. Assignment to one of these areas may be preceded by an assignment in one or more functional areas of the organization. In recognition of their important contribution, human resource managers are well compensated. Graduates can also enjoy careers in such fields as insurance, retailing, banking and other service industries.

- Minimum academic requirements: Freshmen: 2.5 GPA / Transfer:* 2.0 GPA
- *Students with 24 or more earned hours of college credit
- English proficiency requirements
- $75 non-refundable application fee
- Official Academic Records from schools attended with grades and any degrees/diplomas/certificates received. Should also include a literal English translation.
- Financial Evidence of Support must be provided to obtain an I-20
- Students transferring from within the US will need to fill out the Transfer-In Form
