The Culture and Media program of The New School analyzes media as it relates to and impacts diverse dimensions of culture, including politics, economics, business, education, art, and entertainment. Culture and Media students and faculty are committed to understanding and decoding the ways in which a diverse array of media influence our daily lives as well as the impact that we, both as individuals and collectively, can have on the cultural and political climates that surround us.
The rapidly changing global communications environment calls for professionals trained to analyze and create media arts and studies. A degree in Culture and Media Studies can lead to a successful career in film, television, print and web-based media, and other forms of entertainment. Potential professional roles include production, screenwriting, curatorship, cultural programming, content creation, design, public relations, marketing, journalism, as well as film, arts, and cultural criticism.
