Overview
The Computer Science programme at the University of Denver provides a rigorous academic framework for students interested in the theory and application of modern computing. This degree focuses on how information is encoded, stored, and analysed through the development of sophisticated algorithms and software systems.
Students engage with a curriculum that balances theoretical principles with practical problem-solving techniques. The faculty at the University of Denver prioritise close interaction with students, ensuring that individual career goals and academic progress are supported throughout the duration of the programme.
Why Computer Science at the University of Denver?
The Daniel Felix Ritchie School of Engineering & Computer Science offers a distinctive learning environment where students receive personalised attention from expert teaching professors. This supportive atmosphere helps students navigate complex technical subjects while building professional networks within the industry.
A unique feature of this programme is its heavy emphasis on mathematics. The curriculum is structured so that students automatically earn enough credits for a minor in mathematics. Additionally, students are required to complete a second minor in a different discipline, encouraging a well-rounded and interdisciplinary education.
The university provides access to specialised facilities, including innovation labs and research centres focused on human-computer interaction and biomedical devices. These resources allow undergraduates to participate in high-level research and gain hands-on experience with emerging technologies and hardware systems.

Syllabus
The curriculum covers a broad range of technical subjects designed to prepare students for the evolving digital landscape. Modules may include:
- Game Capstone I
- Ethical Hacking
- Computer Forensics
- Algorithms
- Computer Systems
- Software Processes
- Vulnerability Research
- File Systems
- Network Layers
- Steganalysis
During the final stages of the programme, students often participate in capstone projects. For instance, the game development sequence requires teams to design, build, and test a working game from scratch, managing the entire development lifecycle from programming to art integration.
Careers with Computer Science
Graduates from this programme are highly sought after in the global job market. Computer science majors are consistently ranked among the top-paid graduates at the bachelor's degree level due to their specialised technical skills and analytical capabilities.
Potential career paths include roles in software engineering, cybersecurity, and systems analysis. The rigorous training in ethical hacking and digital forensics prepares students for vital positions in national security and data protection. Many alumni also find success in game development, web technologies, and cloud computing sectors.
The combination of a major in computer science and two minors ensures that graduates possess a diverse skill set. This multidisciplinary approach allows them to apply computing solutions to various industries, including finance, healthcare, and telecommunications, where algorithmic efficiency is essential.
