You'll learn about multicultural curriculum and instruction, classroom management, educational technology, special education, assessment, educational philosophy and psychology. We are accredited nationally by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation and approved by the Illinois State Board of Education.

What will I study?

The Elementary Education program offered by Northern Illinois University provides classroom instruction in the areas of child development, curriculum and instruction, classroom management, educational technology, special education, assessment, educational philosophy and psychology, as well as a number of methods courses. These how-to classes instruct majors in how to provide instruction in specific subject areas such as reading and writing, mathematics, language arts, social studies and science.
