About Biochemistry at UM

Biochemistry is an interdisciplinary science that brings powerful spectroscopic, chemical and computational tools to bear on fundamental problems in biology. The program offers a B.S. in Biochemistry, a minor in Biochemistry, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biochemistry & Biophysics.

The faculty of the Biochemistry program of The University of Montana members come from the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, the Division of Biological Sciences, the Department of Biomedical & Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Department of Computer Science. Faculty expertise includes structural biology, bioinformatics, enzymology, protein dynamics, RNA biology and the molecular genetics of pathogenic organisms.

The B.S. in Biochemistry is designed for students planning to attend graduate school or medical and veterinary schools, all of which require a strong background in biochemistry. The B.S. in Biochemistry is also suitable for students planning to pursue a career in research and development in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries.
