What will I learn in a forest ecology and management degree program?

In the Forest Management and Ecology program at University of Nevada, Reno, you'll learn how to use scientific reasoning and data to make decisions about managing crucial natural resources such as forests and the wildlife populations that live in them.

During your first year, you'll take general math and sciences courses as well as an introductory course to natural resource management that covers topics such as conservation biology and environmental ethics and economics as well as a focus on the Truckee River watershed and Great Basin ecosystem.

As you progress through the major, you'll continue to study the basic science underlying conservation as well as take specific courses in your major that may include topics such as forest ecology, water resource management, forest plants and wildfires. General requirements

To be admitted to an undergraduate degree program as a regular freshman student, you must be a graduate from an approved or accredited high school (GED certificate may not be used for admission) and satisfy the below requirements:

Required high school courses: English, math, social sciences and natural sciences.

You must have a 3.0 weighted GPA in the academic core courses (AGPA) in order to be admitted to the University of Nevada, Reno. The academic courses include: English, math, social sciences and natural sciences.

Standardized test scores are not required for admission to the University of Nevada, Reno. The University accepts the ACT and SAT scores and may use scores for class placement in first-year courses.
If you are a student who does not meet the academic GPA requirements, but have graduated with an Advanced Diploma from a Nevada high school, you will be granted admission to the University.
