The Chemistry program of the University of Nevada, Reno provides strong training for careers in chemistry and flexibility to pursue other areas, such as allied health sciences or K-12 teaching. With four available emphases, you have the opportunity to pursue what interests you most.

Chemistry professor

Careers in the chemical sciences are generally well compensated. A chemical engineer, for example has a median annual wage of $97,360, and a toxicologist receives a median annual wage of $82,240 according to a survey by the American Chemical Society (2015).

General requirements

To be admitted to an undergraduate degree program as a regular freshman student, you must be a graduate from an approved or accredited high school (GED certificate may not be used for admission) and satisfy the below requirements:

Required high school courses: English, math, social sciences and natural sciences.

You must have a 3.0 weighted GPA in the academic core courses (AGPA) in order to be admitted to the University of Nevada, Reno. The academic courses include: English, math, social sciences and natural sciences.

Standardized test scores are not required for admission to the University of Nevada, Reno. The University accepts the ACT and SAT scores and may use scores for class placement in first-year courses.
If you are a student who does not meet the academic GPA requirements, but have graduated with an Advanced Diploma from a Nevada high school, you will be granted admission to the University.
