Overview

The Photography and Film - Photography programme at Virginia Commonwealth University will give you technical and conceptual skills to begin a career as a professional artist or a commercial photographer. Coursework emphasis is on individual artistic expression and inquiry, and the development of a professional, practice-based toolkit of knowledge. You will graduate with a clearly defined senior thesis capstone photography portfolio, developed and mentored over the course of your senior year, and presented in a public exhibition. You’ll also have access to the largest darkroom in the Mid-Atlantic region, as well as the department’s premium digital cameras and lighting equipment, and you can edit in our digital labs 24/7.
