Overview

With the Photography and Film - Filmmaking programme from Virginia Commonwealth University you’ll have access to Super 8mm, 16mm and digital cameras and sound technology, and graduate with a number of films that you’ve written, produced, shot, directed, edited and publicly screened. You will graduate with a number of short works in film and new media you have written, produced, directed, lensed and edited, and you will have ample opportunity to learn a range of professional crew positions. You will also graduate with a clearly defined senior thesis capstone film, developed and mentored over the course of your senior year, and presented in a public screening.

Competency in filmmaking technique

Students effectively recognize, explain and deploy the use of basic to advanced film and digital media tools, techniques and processes sufficient to advance their work from concept to finished product. Students will display evidence of professional proficiency regarding the methods and modes of production presented in required courses covering technical mastery of analog and digital filmmaking.
