Learning objectives

Upon completing a Clinical Psychology major at Tufts University, students will be able to:

Describe the clinical presentations and core features of the major mental/psychological disorders in people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
Describe in biological, psychological, and social terms the possible etiologies/causes of the major mental/psychological disorders in people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
Describe in biological, psychological and social terms approaches to treatment of the major mental/psychological disorders in people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
Compare and contrast different approaches to treatments of the major mental disorders: cognitive-behavioral approaches, psychodynamic approaches, biological approaches, and others.
Read and critically evaluate original journal articles related to clinical psychological topics.
Be knowledgeable about the American Psychological Association (APA) ethics guidelines and be able to apply them to clinical scenarios.
Collect and interpret clinical and neuropsychological data of patients with mental illness.
Gain an understanding of basic quantitative and analytic methods used for scientific investigation in clinical psychology, including those related to probability, tests of frequency, correlation, t-tests and analysis of variance (ANOVA).
Employ oral and visual communication skills for reporting and discussing clinical data and case studies.
Use written, graphic, and verbal skills to organize and communicate clinical data in a clear, standardized fashion.
