Overview

Knowledge of religion is critical in today’s world. The Religion and Society programme from Syracuse University offers students opportunities to explore religion in cross-cultural and interdisciplinary contexts.

Students who take our courses learn to interpret the dynamics of religious thought, convictions, actions, and expressions. Some of the questions that they engage include: What kind of life is most worth living? How do we understand the nature of the world? How do we relate to ourselves and to others?

Develop an understanding of religion as a foundation of culture.
Become more aware of and sensitive to a diversity of religious beliefs and practices.
Learn to interpret dynamics of religious convictions, actions and expressions in cross-cultural, interdisciplinary contexts.
Choose semester, summer, short-term or yearlong options for international study, including Syracuse University centers in London, England, and Madrid, Spain, which offer courses in religion.

If you have completed academic work outside the U.S. you must also provide official academic credentials as well as English translations of the documents. If only one document is available, we will accept notarized or certified copies of the original document. If translations are needed, it is your responsibility to have the credentials translated by a reputable translation and evaluation service.
Syracuse University will not provide translations for you. A key to the marking system or grading scale should also be included if it is not indicated on the transcript.
