The major in the History of Architecture explores the history of the built environment. It also provides you with a rich and nuanced understanding of how humanity has interacted with the planet by constructing buildings and cities, transforming the landscape, under different social, political, technological and economic circumstances.

The research and teaching specialties of the history of architecture faculty include the architecture of the Middle Ages; sixteenth, seventeenth, and twentieth century Italian architecture; sixteenth to eighteenth century French architecture; the global Baroque; European architecture of the long eighteenth century; European Modernism; South, Southeast, and East Asian architecture; Medievalism; colonial architecture; and the history of urbanism.
