Overview

The English majors at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee develop their mastery of narrative and the written word by engaging specifically with creative writing, literature, cultural theory, rhetoric and professional writing, and digital, cinema, and media studies. Through these areas of study, students gain a deeper understanding of language, culture, and storytelling in both historical and contemporary contexts.

In small classes, our students learn to understand the power and possibilities of the English language across the centuries and around the world. Students learn to think critically, write persuasively, argue logically, delve deeply into history, and explore their own creativity. Students are challenged to examine their own assumptions, sharpen their writing, and learn how to read and understand complex and enduring narrative forms.

Flexibility. Many classes are available online in each of the tracks but the Open Focus track can be completed 100% online for students that would like a fully remote experience. Students can always mix-and-match online with in-person classes if they wish.

The bachelor’s application requirements include uploaded copies of transcripts and degree certificates. Applicants should upload copies into their application online.

Admitted students will be required to provide the original documents to upon arrival to campus. There is no need to mail anything directly to UWM during the application process.

Provide transcripts for all study, including secondary/high school and all university/college study. If the transcript is not issued in English, include an English translation.
