Overview
Academics
Our classes are primarily small, and excellent teaching and innovative pedagogy are departmental priorities. Many of our faculty members and instructors have won college and university wide prizes and fellowships for teaching.
In the Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies program of the University of Massachusetts Amherst students develop a range of skills including the ability to critically analyze media, literature, rhetoric, policy and more. Our students develop strong writing skills, and learn collaboration by working individually, in pairs and on group projects. Students often engage in independent research projects with our faculty. Students learn theory and also how theory can be applied in the real world.
