About Computer Engineering at University of Rhode Island

We develop better ways to route Internet traffic, improve data security and integrity, provide clear cell phone reception and even predict the weather. Our students learn to combine hardware concepts from electrical engineering with software concepts from computer science to design these systems and others.

Digital computer and communication systems have transformed society in profound ways. From scientific supercomputers and embedded systems such as smart phones, to the internet of things (IoT) and smart cities, computing has become ubiquitous. The URI computer engineering program provides a strong foundation in the relevant fields of electrical engineering and computer science, while teaching the latest computer engineering topics, such as advanced computer architecture, computer network and cyber security, big data learning and processing, and field programmable gate array (FPGA).

Graduates from the program go on to positions in both government agencies and the private sector, or enter graduate school for further study. Many computer engineering undergraduate students work with faculty on research projects before entering graduate school.

A completed Common Application

Application fee of $65
Official high school transcript (preferably submitted through the Common Application)
List of senior courses (admission is contingent upon successful completion of all senior course work and graduation from high school)
Official SAT or ACT scores (MUST be sent electronically by the testing services: the URI ID code is 3919 for SAT and 3818 for ACT)
Essay
At least one letter of recommendation (please limit to two). If your school counselor writes your letter of recommendation (which is our preference), there is no need to submit a teacher evaluation/recommendation. Pharmacy applicants are required to provide two letters of recommendation
Admitted students are required to submit a final high school transcript showing proof of graduation by July 15.
