Program Description

The English program at California Institute of Technology - Caltech also provides excellent preparation for those seeking careers in law, business, and administration, and in any field that involves extensive communication.

During the senior year, and typically in the first two terms, English option students enroll in En 99 ab (Senior Tutorial for English Majors) with a faculty member chosen by mutual agreement. The Senior Tutorial introduces students to advanced methods in literary research and analysis and provides an important means for assessing the progress of English option students in the rigorous study of literary texts and contexts. Students research, write, and revise a 25-to-30-page paper on a topic of their choosing in consultation with their faculty mentor.

General requirements

Regardless of your curriculum, we expect you to take the following classes in high school:

4 years of math, including 1 year of calculus (For students in the IB curriculum, this equates to taking 2 years of Higher Level Math)

1 year of chemistry

1 year of physics, preferably calculus-based, though not required

Four years of high school infers that you have had 12 years of education. As long as you meet our academic requirements within your country's curriculum, we will consider your application.

School Report: This is a document that your high school college counselor will send to Caltech that provides context about your school

Teacher evaluations

Official transcripts from your secondary school (or the international curriculum equivalent)
