Overview

Students of History at College of William & Mary gain an understanding of the human experience around the world and over time. This understanding forms a solid base on which to build many different careers.

Students may major or minor in history. The introductory courses are open to all students who wish to expand their understanding of global events. All students enrolled in history courses may take advantage of the History Writing Resource Center. Advanced students may take advantage of opportunities to conduct independent research.

Undergraduate Program

All history majors gain experience in using tools for historical research through the Capstone Seminars.

In these intensive colloquia, students produce a substantial paper and grapple with evidentiary and historiographical issues at a sophisticated level. These courses are excellent preparation for writing a senior honors thesis, and majors are urged to consider taking one in their junior year.

All students taking a history course may take advantage of the History Writing Resource Center. Consultants work with history students at all levels, from those new to writing about history to advanced students working on their honors thesis.

The Secondary School Report form complete with a high school transcript and counselor letter of recommendation

The Midyear School Report form, should be submitted to the admission office with an updated transcript as soon as first semester grades are available.
