Overview

The Department of History's faculty members have areas of expertise ranging across the globe, and covering the entire period from the ancient world to the twenty-first century. Numerous faculty members have won William & Mary's, Virginia's, and the historical profession's most prestigious awards for teaching, for scholarship, and for general excellence; US World & News Report's 2013 rankings of graduate programs in History named William & Mary one of the top three places in the country to study U.S. Colonial History, alongside the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University.

  • A completed Common Application or Coalition Application. 
  • $75 application fee: The $75 (USD) application fee 
  • Secondary School Report Form including official records of your courses and grades from all secondary schools and universities you have attended.
  • Results of the appropriate tests a) SAT I or ACT; and b) TOEFL or IELTS. Please request that the results be sent directly to William & Mary by the testing organization. Only the official results will be used in evaluating your application.
