General Requirements

Applicants intending to pursue a Michigan Technological University bachelor's degree following completion of secondary level studies are considered first-year students. Admission to Michigan Tech is selective and competitive. Students with high motivation, a strong academic background as evidenced by above average grades at the secondary school level or standardized tests/exams, and leadership abilities are encouraged to apply.

Admissions requirements vary by major. On average, our incoming students have a 3.70 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and a 27.0 ACT composite. About fifteen percent of our students submit SAT scores, and the average total score is 1783.

First-year applicants need to submit an official copy of your high school transcript and official ACT and/or SAT scores. If you'd like to have your guidance counselor share details about your academic performance.

Funding

At Michigan Tech the scholarship application process is easy. In fact, all admitted students are automatically considered for most merit-based scholarships—a special application form is not required except for the Michigan Tech Leading Scholar Award. Priority consideration for financial aid and scholarships is given to students who are accepted by January 15.
